Strange weather today. Gorgeously sunny than a stray band of thunderstorm hits us. Meanwhile hurricane season has kicked off - with Hurricane Adolf sitting off Mexico (great name).
Yesterday saw Bridget Jones' Diary - very amusing. Also made me very homesick and thinking fondly back to the leek and potato soup that my mum makes. Need to try and make some of that after my other attempts at cooking over this long memorial day weekend. The muffins were edible when covered with jam....

Just reading an article on BBC news about the latest 3G phones. One of them is a Motorola Timeport with a credit card reader. The thought occurs that a cell phone with built in card reader is an opportunist thief's dream - you hand over your card at a restaurant to order food, meanwhile they swipe your card through their phone, order the latest Lara Croft game from Amazon and then return with your bill. Nice one.

Just got back from an amazing trip to Puerto Rico. Highlights were a trip to Arecibo Radio Observatory (as seen in Goldeneye), a tropical rainstorm in Rincon (29 inches of rain fell that day) and the island of Culebra. Culebra, an island of 2000 people and only 250 hotel rooms, is absolutely beautiful. First day we arrived Tim and I went to Soni beach on the north side of the island. Half a mile of white sandy beach deserted apart from us and 3 surfers. Saw turtle tracks in the sand where they'd laid their eggs.. This led to me spending last Friday night on a starlit Brava beach watching 8 foot leatherback turtles lay hundreds of eggs. This was all backed up by shooting stars and phosphorescent algae, streaking green in the breaking waves and little dots of blue phosphorescent creatures on the sand. Truely one of the most amazing nights of my life. Thanks to Amy in Bar 119 (again) for the recommendation!
On a side note, here's my house on an arial photo - it should be right in the centre, a large square blob.
ps, Expect scanned in photos soon (none of turtles - not allowed flashes) and the Bernard Matthews reference can be explained by any handy Brit...

Well, it's the start of May and summer's come a bit early to NYC. It's currently about 85 F in the park, a nice 30 C. Which, coupled with the gorgeous sunshine, would all be great except that I'm a) in the office and b) the office a/c has yet to be put together. From my desk I can see the unassembled components waiting for more loud banging noises and burning smells as their assembly continues...
On the plus side, it's only 4 days till I'm in Puerto Rico... yay!
